ABOUT US
OUR PROGRAMS
At Whitehall Community Garden, we offer various programs to help members of the community improve their quality of life and promote environmental sustainability. Our programs include:
- Garden workshops and classes
- Community gardening plots
- School partnerships and environmental education
- Volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups
Community Gardening
Our community garden is the heart of our organization. It provides a space for members of the community to come together and grow fresh, healthy produce. Through our community garden, we aim to promote sustainable living and healthy eating habits. We will also be running a compost station and a native pollinator garden, all with organic practices and pest control methods.
Community Engagement
At Whitehall Community Garden, we believe in the power of community. Through our programs and events, we aim to bring together members of the community to promote social connections and a sense of belonging. We are excited to have LGE students, community residents and members of our 55+ community involved in the garden together, encouraging an intergenerational atmosphere.
Environmental Education
We believe that environmental education is key to promoting sustainability. That's why we partner with local schools and the UD Master Gardeners program to provide environmental education programs and opportunities for students and residents. Our native pollinator garden will also serve as an example and teaching garden.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups, including maintenance of the garden, event planning, and outreach efforts.
Garden Workshops and Classes
Our garden workshops and classes provide community members with the knowledge and skills they need to grow their own fresh produce and promote sustainable living. LGE students will be working with Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids for scheduled classes at the garden. Education regarding composting, native planting, biodiversity and herbal medicine taught by Master Gardeners and local experts are scheduled for the future.
Local Food Access
We believe that everyone should have access to fresh, healthy food. That's why we work to promote local food access and will donate excess produce to our local food bank and families in need at LGE.
